Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag has put his weight behind Marcus Rashford after he ended his goal-scoring drought. The Red Devils registered a convincing 3-0 win against Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday after the international break.
Rashford scored the second goal of the evening in the 41st minute after Matthijs de Ligt scored the first goal for the team in the 35th minute. Alejandro Garnacho then found the back of the net in the stoppage time to put the game to bed.
Meanwhile, Rashford had not scored in the last 13 matches for United however he was able to end his drought.
“It’s very important,” the manager said after Saturday’s victory that gave United six points after four Premier League games.
“For every striker, they want to be on the scoring list. Once the first is in, more is coming. Once a striker was talking about a ketchup bottle — once it’s going, it’s coming more.”
United came up with a collective effort against Southampton and they will look to keep up the good show.
Meanwhile, Rashford was not picked by former England manager Gareth Southgate for Euro 2024. Furthermore, he was not included in UEFA Nations League matches against Finland and the Republic of Ireland, which the Three Lions won.
Thus, Rashford was able to make the most of the international break by working hard on his drills and hopefully, this goal will be the start of a good season for the forward.
Manchester United will next take on Barnsley in the League Cup on Tuesday at Old Trafford.
