Valencia Faces Tough Decision as Mosquera Pushes for Arsenal Move

Valencia finds itself in a challenging position this summer as promising young defender Cristhian Mosquera makes it clear that his future lies away from the Mestalla. Despite the Spanish club’s desire to keep the 21-year-old, his determination to join Arsenal has created tension behind the scenes. The Gunners’ interest has given Mosquera a tempting opportunity to step onto the Premier League stage, and his mind seems firmly made up.

Valencia’s management has been working hard to secure Mosquera’s future with a contract extension. Given that the player is entering the final year of his current deal, the club risks losing him at a cut-price fee or, worse, for free next summer. For a club that has struggled financially in recent years, losing one of its most valuable young assets without appropriate compensation would be a bitter blow.

While Valencia sees Mosquera as a key part of their long-term project, the player’s ambition has now shifted. Interest from Arsenal—where he could learn alongside the likes of William Saliba—has changed the conversation. It’s understood that Mosquera was initially open to remaining in Spain, but delays in Valencia’s contract offer left the door open for other suitors.

Valencia rejected Arsenal’s opening bid, but Mosquera’s stance hasn’t wavered. The young defender has reportedly agreed personal terms with the London club and sees this as a unique chance to develop in a more competitive league. Arsenal, on the other hand, views Mosquera as an ideal addition to their defensive ranks—someone who can grow into a bigger role over time.

Even though Mosquera is pushing for the move, Valencia won’t let him leave without a fight. Reports suggest they are demanding around £17.3 million to sanction the transfer. For Arsenal, the fee is not insignificant, especially considering their other summer transfer priorities. Still, the Gunners seem willing to push ahead, viewing the deal as a smart long-term investment.

Arsenal’s summer business has been aggressive across multiple areas of the pitch. They’re closing in on Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, and discussions are ongoing with Brentford’s Christian Norgaard to boost the midfield. In attack, the North London club is still evaluating their options, with Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko both heavily linked. Mosquera’s signing would add defensive depth to balance out these more high-profile attacking moves.

Valencia, for their part, will likely continue trying to convince Mosquera to stay put for at least one more season. They’ve tabled a new contract offer, but as things stand, the player appears set on his Premier League ambitions.
