France’s forward Kylian Mbappe is having the competition of his dreams. Mbappe has scored five goals and provided two assists in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 for his team as he has come up with his absolute best.
The striker has been a livewire on the field and scored two scorching goals on Sunday to become the highest goal-scorer of the marquee event. Mbappe scored a brace against Poland in the Round-of-16 clash at the Al Thumama Stadium.
Mbappe has been breathing down the neck of the opposition’s defenders with his speed and skills and it is almost possible to put the breaks on him.
Mbappe nailed two perfect goals against Poland and gave no chance to the opposition’s custodian.
“This is competition of my dreams, and I am delighted to be here,” Mbappe said. “I have prepared all season to be ready.
“When I didn’t speak to the media in the early rounds of this competition, it was because I just needed to focus on tournament and my football. When I want to concentrate, that’s how I function, but when I was told the French Federation would be fined, I paid it myself because it was my responsibility.
“But I am here and focused on winning the World Cup again. We’re a long way from achieving our objective of going all the way and winning the World Cup, though. The first challenge is the quarterfinal, and that’s what we are focusing on now.”
Mbappe has now scored a total of nine goals in the FIFA World Cup and he has leapfrogged players like Pele, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Thierry Henry.
On the other hand, Poland coach Michniewicz said Mbappe is the next big thing in the footballing world.
“Messi, Ronaldo, and [Robert] Lewandowski,” Michniewicz said. “Somebody is going to take over, and I think he [Mbappe] is going to be the best one for many years.
“He hurt us. When you play against France, you need to have two players on Mbappe at all times.”
France will face England in the quarterfinal clash.
