FC Goa head coach Carlos Pena was satisfied with the fighting spirit shown by his men to comeback in the game and find a late equalizer against the Jamshedpur FC in their latest Indian Super League clash. FC Goa forward Iker Guarrotxena scored a brace to help the Gaurs comeback in the game and return home with a single point.
Earlier in the game it was Iker Guarrotxena who scored an own goal and allowed Jamshedpur FC to take the lead while Ishan Pandita also scored for the Men of Steel. But ultimately the Spaniard turned up big time and helped FC Goa earn a point from a game that looks like done and dusted for them.
Pena addressed the media after the match and shared how the second half was totally for the Gaurs. He lauded their confidence and spirit to comebackin thegame but was not happy overall as he felt three points would have been more ideal.
“The second half was completely for us, we even conceded the goal because of our mistake and we tried to attack, to create chances, we had the chances and we didn’t give up and scored in the 90th minute and we could’ve another goal in the added time. I’m not happy because we wanted to get the three points here but at least the team showed character, we got one point after making the comeback twice, I think it’s fair on both teams,” Pena stated at the post match press conference.
Thesaurus defeated Jamshedpur FC 3-0 at home but here the match was more closely contest. Pena shared how the hosts were very aggressive right from the start and wanted to play positively and take an early lead. “Jamshedpur FC were much more aggressive in approaching us in the first half. They created problems with pressure which we were not able to keep the continuity to play in their own half and we conceded too many corners, throw-ins and we left too much space in our own half and we knew if this would happen then it will create problems for us.”
Lastly the Spanish tactician spoke about Iker Guarrotxena who has certainly become the talisman for the Gaurs as he is starting to score more and more goals with every passing game. Here though he scored an own goal he made up for it by scoring brace for the visitors. Pena feels that the Spanish forward provides lot more than just scoring goals as he lauded him for his workrate and soul that he has for the team when he is on the pitch.
Iker (Guarrotxena) gives a lot of things to the team, not only the goals. Till now he hasn’t been scoring a lot of goals but now he’s finding success in front of the goal. His character, his soul, he has a lot of things that help the team, his defensive work is amazing, also the way he works for the team. So happy for his performance, his two goals and so happy for him that his goals helped the team,” the FC Goa tactician concluded.
