We’ll give them a hard time: Sahal Abdul Samad on facing Syria

    January 22, 2024

Indian midfielder Sahal Abdul Samad is optimistic of a good show against Syria in their last Group B match in the ongoing AFC Asian Cup. India suffered a 2-0 loss against Australia in their opening game whereas they were thrashed by Uzbekistan by 3-0.

Ergo, the Blue Tigers will aim to turn the tables against Syria and get crucial three points under their belt. India still has an outside chance of qualifying for the knockout stages if other results go their way.

The Mohun Bagan Super Giant midfielder said they will try to give their absolute best against Syria and get the job done.

“We just have to make sure that we do well in the upcoming game, and get the three points,” Sahal told the ISL Media team.

“We are looking at the other groups. Sandesh bhai had told us that we have a chance if we beat Syria who are good opponents. We are just working on that. We just hope we do our best and win the next game,” he added.

The 26-year-old said they need to enjoy the game to get the best out of themselves and play as a unit to get the desired result.

“Every game is a new chance. We are down in one game then we have another opportunity in 3-4 days. We will give them a hard time. We need to be ourselves, play as a team, defend as a team and enjoy the game,” Sahal said.

“Both teams would want to win the game so it’s down to who wants it more. Hopefully, we get the three points and we qualify,” he added.

Meanwhile, Samad had missed the previous game due to injury and he is hopeful of making his return to the playing XI against Syria.

“I’m still not completely back. With the help of physios, doctors and coaches, I’m still trying to be back. Hopefully, I might be ready for the next game,” Sahal said.

“If I get a chance, I’ll make sure, I’ll give my 100% to win the game. It’s not about me but about the team. I won’t be happier to be back soon,” he concluded.

India will face Syria on Tuesday at Al Bayt Stadium.
