India’s winger Lallianzuala Chhangte has said they will try to make Indian football fans happy with a positive result against Syria in the AFC Asian Cup clash. India suffered a 2-0 loss against Australia in their opening game whereas they were beaten ignominiously by 3-0 by Uzbekistan.
Thus, they will be looking to turn the tables against Syria in a must-win game. India hasn’t been able to bring their best in the first two matches and they will look to come up with a collective effort.
“Obviously, we didn’t have the journey we wanted to have. But, we are very, very positive and the atmosphere in the team right now is really, really good because we know what we need to do and it’s all about doing what we need to do in the next match. The preparation is in full swing, everyone is ready to play, to give their 120% and we will try our best to make the Indian people happy and we try to go home satisfied,” stated Chhangte while speaking to ISL Media.
Reflecting on their AFC Asian Cup campaign, Chhangte added, “I think in terms of playing good football we have done pretty well in the last two matches but it’s obvious that we didn’t create chances enough. We had some decent chances but I think it’s all about taking our chances in the next match, and for sure we will have our chance, it’s all about taking the opportunity and getting three points.”
Chhangte said the team is ready to take on Syria and give their absolute best on the pitch in their last group-stage match.
He stated, “It’s all about being positive and taking one game at a time. That’s, I think, really, really important. Of course, we can’t go back in the past and play against Australia or Uzbekistan. That can’t happen, but it’s all about looking ahead at what’s in front of us, which is Syria. So all our focus is against them and we will try our best to get three points.”
On the other hand, Kerala Blasters FC defender Pritam Kotal revealed the team is positive ahead of the game against Syria.
“The mood isn’t that great in the dressing room but we are still positive because, the way we played the last match, how we approached the match against Uzbekistan, I think we will continue with the same against Syria and we will try to get a good result,” Kotal stated.
Expressing his gratitude towards the fans, he said, “The fans are our 12th man and Qatar (based) Majapadda and in all of India, all the fans that we have, please continue supporting us and we will do something great ahead.”
