Belgian Grand Prix Preview

Winning the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps requires a perfect blend of raw speed, aerodynamic efficiency, and strategic adaptability on one of Formula 1’s most revered and challenging circuits. The 7.004 km layout—the longest on the calendar—features iconic corners like Eau Rouge, Raidillon, Pouhon, and Blanchimont, testing a driver’s commitment and a car’s high-speed stability.

With massive elevation changes, long straights, and a mix of fast and technical sections, Spa demands a well-balanced setup that can handle both straight-line velocity and cornering grip. Weather often plays a decisive role, as different sections of the circuit can experience varying conditions simultaneously, making tire strategy and timing of pit stops crucial.

Overtaking is more feasible here than at most tracks, especially into Les Combes and the Bus Stop chicane, but winning still requires a precise mix of pace, consistency, and race management over its 44 laps of pure racing history.

Lewis Hamilton was officially declared the winner of the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps on July 28, after his then Mercedes teammate George Russell was disqualified for an underweight car.

Russell had originally crossed the finish line first, but post-race scrutineering found his car was approximately 1.5kg too light, leading to his exclusion. Hamilton, who had finished second on track, was promoted to victory—marking his second win of the season and the 105th of his career—while Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc moved up to second and third respectively.

Lando Norris emerged triumphant at the 2025 British Grand Prix on July 6 at Silverstone, clinching his first-ever home win in a thrilling, rain-affected race. Starting third on the grid, Norris capitalized on mixed conditions and a 10-second penalty handed to teammate Oscar Piastri, seizing the lead and maintaining a decisive advantage—crossing the line 6.812 seconds ahead.

Nico Hülkenberg scored a surprise podium finish in third, claiming his first career top-three, while LewisHamilton came home fourth and MaxVerstappen recovered to fifth.

In the current Driver’s Standings, Piastri leads with 234 points, followed by Norris at 226 and Verstappen with 165.

Piastri’s blend of composure, technical precision, and strategic acumen makes him an ideal contender for a top-five finish at this year’s Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. Known for remaining calm under pressure, he delivered one of his cleanest performances at Spa in 2024, executing his race flawlessly with errorfree pace and smart strategy.

His ability to gain momentum through fast, flowing sectors like Les Combes and Campus—often outperforming rivals thanks to early throttle application and efficient braking—demonstrates his proficiency on high-speed circuits.

Complemented by his mature tire management and veteran-like racecraft, Piastri is well-equipped to handle Spa’s technical challenges and unpredictable weather, making a top-five result on July 27 a realistic goal.

Pick: Oscar Piastri 2.63 | Dafabet
