“Delhi Police pressurizing us to vacate the protest site,” says ace Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia

The wrestlers continue to protest at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi but in a recent turn of events, Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia has made some serious allegations against Delhi Police. He stated that the policemen are pressurizing them to leave the place and bring an end to the protest.

He highlighted how they are trying different tricks to break the resolve of the wrestlers. Delhi Police allegedly blocked the water supply and have also cut the power supply near that area. These claims from Punia come an hour after the FIR was registered by them against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Bajrang Punia in an Instagram live shared the dire conditions that the wrestlers are in especially at night after power has been cut by the Delhi Police. Punia said, “The Delhi Police is pressurizing us to vacate the protest site. They are treating us as if we are the criminals. They are telling us to leave as the FIR has been registered. They have cut the power supply as we are without any fans or lights. Now, we are forced to pass the night in the dark..”

The video clearly states every claim made by him as the wrestlers also claim that the gates are locked from both sides.

Bajrang, who bagged the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics highlighted that Delhi Police are playing tricks with them by blocking the water supply, cutting off electricity and constantly creating problems with the intention to vacate the area.

“We are forced to have dinner in the torchlight. They are not even allowing the entry of water for us. The cops are trying different tricks to build pressure on us so that we leave the site. We are sitting here on peaceful protest but the cops are hell-bent on driving us away. They have also asked the media to leave the venue,” Bajrang added.

It is almost a week now but the wrestlers are undeterred in their mind that they want to continue the protest until and unless the former WFI chief is arrested.

Bajrang in another video revealed that the ACP of Delhi Police has told him that things will be like this only. But the wrestlers are unbothered as they want to continue their fight for justice. “I had a conversation with ACP and he is saying do whatever you want to, this is how things will be. This protest will continue till we get justice and we will not move.”

It remains to be seen whether the wrestlers get justice or not and even if they get, how many days would they have to protest. With the Asian Games coming later this year and the Paris Olympics scheduled next year, this can be a massive blow for India.
