Duce Robinson has officially made the move from USC to Florida State, bringing size, skill, and a deep-rooted connection to the Seminoles’ program. At 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds, the Arizona native offers a dynamic target for FSU’s passing attack, adding another weapon to an already promising receiving corps.
The son of former Seminole wide receiver and punt returner Dominic Robinson, Duce is no stranger to Florida State’s football legacy. His father recorded 680 receiving yards over four seasons in Tallahassee, and Duce grew up surrounded by FSU memorabilia. Now, he has the chance to carve out his own legacy in garnet and gold.
Despite once being projected as a tight end due to his towering frame, Robinson has proven he’s much more than just a jump-ball specialist. His agility, route-running, and ability to stretch the field make him a versatile threat. Over two seasons at USC, he developed into a dangerous deep-play option, posting an impressive 19.2 yards per catch—ranking 9th nationally among Power 4 receivers with at least 30 receptions over that span.
Robinson entered the transfer portal as one of the most sought-after talents, ranking among the top 10 transfers nationwide. His decision to choose Florida State over multiple Power 4 programs further bolsters an already talented receiving unit in Tallahassee.
A key factor in his decision was the presence of offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, a name that holds personal significance. Malzahn was Auburn’s head coach when Florida State won its last national championship in 2013—a moment Robinson vividly remembers. Now, Malzahn is designing plays for him, looking to maximize his unique blend of size and speed within an offense known for its creativity.
Malzahn’s history of utilizing versatile playmakers bodes well for Robinson. Whether lined up as a deep threat, a possession receiver on key downs, or even in hybrid formations, he is expected to be a focal point in the Seminoles’ attack. His ability to win in one-on-one situations, particularly in the red zone, gives FSU a major boost in close-scoring scenarios.
While Dominic Robinson was a reliable playmaker during his time at FSU, Duce is determined to surpass his father’s numbers. With just 680 career receiving yards to eclipse, he has the opportunity to make his mark early in his Seminole career.
Beyond continuing his family’s FSU ties, Robinson’s move is about establishing his own name. His combination of physical tools and on-field production makes him a legitimate No. 1 receiving option, and a strong season in Tallahassee could catapult him into early-round NFL Draft conversations.
Expectations are high, but Robinson has never shied away from a challenge. If he continues to build on his success at USC, he has the potential to be one of the most dominant receivers in the ACC and a key piece in Florida State’s push for a return to national prominence.
