Indian pugilists Vishvanath Suresh and Sachin Siwach delivered strong performances on Day 3 of the Asian Boxing Championships 2026, advancing to the quarterfinal stage with convincing victories in Ulaanbaatar.
Competing in the men’s 50kg category, Vishvanath Suresh displayed exceptional control and precision en route to a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision win over Bekzat Ergeshov. From the opening round, the Indian boxer dictated the pace with sharp combinations and disciplined defense, leaving little room for his opponent to respond. His ring awareness and technical superiority ensured a clean sweep on the judges’ scorecards.
However, the challenge intensifies in the next round, where Vishvanath will face Sanzhar Tashkenbay. The Kazakh fighter enters the bout with an impressive résumé, having secured both the World Championship and World Cup titles in 2025. The upcoming clash is expected to be one of the most closely watched contests in the division, pitting rising Indian talent against an established global champion.
In the men’s 60kg division, Sachin Siwach also impressed with a composed and tactically sound performance against Mongolia’s Buyandalai Bayarkhuu. The bout was competitive, but Sachin maintained his focus under pressure to secure a 4-1 split decision victory. His ability to stay calm and execute his strategy at key moments proved decisive.
Looking ahead, Sachin will take on Cheng-Wei Lee of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals. The contest presents another stern test, as both fighters aim to move closer to the medal rounds.
India’s strong showing so far in the championships reflects growing depth and confidence in its boxing contingent. With both Vishvanath and Sachin stepping into tougher matchups next, their performances in the quarterfinals will be crucial in determining India’s prospects in the tournament.
As the competition progresses in Ulaanbaatar, all eyes will be on these emerging stars to see if they can convert momentum into podium finishes.
