Olympic bound will have to hold on for at least seven days before resuming full-time training as the National Federation is making plans to kickstart camping activities in Patiala on the 10th of June due to some pending administrative issues.
The camp, which has been originally scheduled to begin for both men and women, is pending necessary approval.
The Executive director for the Boxing Federation of India. [BFI] RK Sacheti told reporters, ” We await the response of our proposal from the government. Within a day or two, the clearance will come through. “However, we might need a week or two to sort out logistics.”
Nine boxers have already secured qualifications for the Tokyo Games next year. They are Amit Panghal [52kg], Manish Kaushik [ 63kg], Vikas Krishan [69kg], Ashish Kumar [75kg], Satish Kumar [91kg].
The boxers for the women category includes the likes of M.C Mary Kom [51kg], Simranjit Kaur [60kg], Lovlina Boroghain [69kg] and Pooja Rani [75kg].
Currently, the men training camp is based in Patiala while that of the women is in Delhi. The BFI decided on the 23rd of May to combine both the en and women in one camp as from June 10th via a video conference which also has the attendance of the officials and boxers
“There are some logistics we need to put in place. The boxers have to be brought to Patiala to undergo some crucial testing. All these will need a space of at least a week, and hopefully, things will go as planned by the second half of the month.
