Reigning Asian champion Vishvanath Suresh and World Boxing Futures Cup gold medallist Chandrika Bhoresh Pujari will headline India’s campaign at the U-19 and U-23 Asian Boxing Championships, which begin in Jakarta on Friday.
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced a strong and balanced squad across both age groups, with a blend of experienced performers and promising young talent aiming for success on the continental stage.
In the men’s U-23 competition, Vishvanath Suresh will lead the Indian challenge in the 50kg category. He is joined by Ganga (55kg), Sagar Jakhar (60kg), Vanshaj (65kg), Hitesh (70kg), and Neeraj (75kg). The squad also includes Aryan Malik (80kg), Rocky Chaudhary (85kg), Hemant Sangwan (90kg), and Ishan Kataria (+90kg), giving India representation across every weight division.
The women’s U-23 team will be led by Nidhi in the 48kg category and Tanu at 51kg. Nisha (54kg) and Prachi (57kg) form part of the core group, while Nikita Chand (60kg), Kajal (65kg), Shivani (70kg), Muskan (75kg), Naina (80kg), and Priyanka (+80kg) complete a well-rounded lineup.
In the U-19 competition, Chandrika Bhoresh Pujari enters the championships with confidence after her gold-medal-winning performance at the World Boxing Futures Cup. She leads the girls’ squad in the 51kg division alongside Gunjan (48kg), Chirom Joyshree Devi (54kg), and Prachi (57kg), among other emerging boxers looking to make their mark at the continental level.
The boys’ U-19 squad also features a promising mix of talent across multiple weight categories. Lairenlakpam Ambekar Meetei (50kg), Aditya (55kg), and Sikander (60kg) are among the notable names selected as India aims for a strong showing in Jakarta.
Ahead of the tournament, the Indian contingent has been preparing at the national training camp, where the focus has been on improving technical skills, physical conditioning and tactical execution. The preparations are expected to put the squad in good stead as they face some of Asia’s best young boxers.
With a combination of reigning champions, recent international medal winners and rising prospects, India will be hoping to deliver another impressive performance when the U-19 and U-23 Asian Boxing Championships get underway in the Indonesian capital.
