Former Indian Open golf winner C Muniyappa is now dismayed by the COVID-19 enforced lockdown from sharpening his short-game skills.
He has been that at his in-laws’ farmland at a small hamlet (Malayur)in Tamil Nadu.
The golfer has therefore stayed away from big cities or towns and went to the village to continue sharpening his skills with activities on halt across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
India is not the only country bearing the brunt of this, as the world is now restarting its economy with the new normal as golf courses remain shut.
Although the 43-year-old may not be ironing out the rough edges on a featherbed of golf course like the KGA, he is the envy of his golfing friends at the moment as they have no such space in the city.
At the village, Muniyappa has created a chip-putt facility with two large mud greens and four tee boxes.
In the unmatched circumstances, the 43-year-old golfer practice with his three kids a four-ball group. The children play at a fairly competitive level in Bengaluru.
Muniyappa had visited his village Polampatti, which is about 15km from Malayur, to settle a land dispute, not knowing that the lockdown will meet in where he is few days after a PGTI event in Kolkata in the middle of March.
Fortunately for him, it worked to his benefit because he came to the village with just his 7-iron as he wasn’t expecting to practice that much there, but the lockdown changed the story. So, this has made his trip to be a blessing in disguise.
So, the golfer alongside his children built two mud greens to make their stay more productive. He proceeded to create a 5-iron and a few putters from a tamarind tree, which was done when he was a child.
He explained that it was tough leveling the rocky terrain, but the unseasonal rain helped his cause as he was saved from watering the greens, and they were ready within a day.
