Neeraj Chopra scripts history in Zurich, becomes the first Indian to win Diamond League title

India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra scripted history in Zurich, Switzerland, at the Diamond League Finals as he became the first Indian to win the Diamond League title. It is considered a top tier athletics trophy and he achieved it with the best throw of 88.44 metres. The Indian stepped up once again at one of the most prestigious and biggest stages of World Athletics.

With every step, the Tokyo Olympic gold medallist has been supremely consistent with his late eighties throws and has won several accolades all across the year. He did miss the Commonwealth Games due to injury but he came up right back with two noteworthy performances at the Diamond League, eventually winning the prestigious title that has not been achieved by any other Indian before this.

Neeraj Chopra did not get off to a great start as his first throw was adjudged as a ‘no throw’ for crossing the line. So there was some sort of pressure for the Indian and some early nerves as well on the big stage. Meanwhile Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch took the lead with a decent throw of 84.15 metres putting more pressure on Neeraj to come out of the blocks quickly.

But Neeraj showed that he is not someone to crumble under pressure, rather he came up with a huge effort of 88.44metres which eventually helped him to win the Diamond League trophy. Vadlejch chased the Indian javelin thrower with a brilliant 86metres throw but it was not great enough to beat the Olympic gold medallist.

Neeraj carried forward the momentum from the second throw to the third one as he threw a distance of 88.0metres and he maintained his lead through the third attempt of all the other athletes. The Indian continued his form with another big throw of 86.11metres. Vadlejch who was his closest competitor came up with his best throw of 86.94metres throw as he finished second position behind Neeraj.

The Indian javelin thrower finished the event with a throw of 87metres once agains proving that he is exceptionally consistent and with time the destined 90metres throw will come in future. But for now the Indian fans are just going berserk over their golden boy Neraj Chopra as they have eyes on the World Athletics Championships and the Paris Olympics.
