Commonwealth Games bronze medallist wrestler Divya Kakran accuses Delhi government for providing her no help or support for her exploits

Indian wrestlers were in full flow at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. It was a complete overhaul for the Indian contingent as all of the 12 wrestlers bagged a medal from the event. While there were six gold medallists, five of them ended up winning bronze and Anshu Malik was the only one who bagged a silver medal. It was truly a very joyous occasion for the Indian wrestlers as they simply dominated the field.

However, among the five bronze medallists, Delhi’s Divya Kakran was one of them. Kakran clinched bronze in the Women’s 68 kg category. After losing the quarterfinals, Kakran made sure she defeated Tonga’s Cocker Lemalie to bag the bronze medal.

The grappler from Delhi was congratulated by several fans and imminent personalities on social media. Among the ministers one of them was the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who wished the grappler for her exploits. But things took a drastic turn when Kakran noticed Kejriwal’s congratulatory message and then replied how she has not got any help from the state government which she was promised earlier. She shared how she has been living in Delhi for over two decades and has not received any kind of help from the government unlike other sports.

“Heartfelt thanks to the Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi for congratulating me on the medal, I have a request to you that I have been living in Delhi for the last 20 years and am practicing my sport wrestling, but till now I have received any reward from the state government. Amount not given, no help given,” Divya Kakran wrote on Twitter.

She even tweeted a video from 2018 when she came back after winning a medal and publicly shared how she has not received any support from the Delhi government  and now she mentions how nothing has changed even in four years.

Divya Kakran had a splendid 2018 where she won the Bronze medal in Asian Games and then followed it up with another bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. However she did not mince her words when she shared how she has not received any help from the government despite all the promises. Now four years later even after her exploits in wrestling things have remained the same according to the wrestler as she backed her Gold Coast performance with another bronze in Birmingham.
