Calvin Betton slams ATP for being obsessed with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, calls it pathetic

Top doubles coach Calvin Betton has slammed ATP for being obsessed with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Betton said ATP doesn’t make any efforts in promoting the doubles game, and their marketing for the doubles is zero.

The coach said the governing body is trying to put Alcaraz and Sinner on camera every day of the week to gain all the viewership. Meanwhile, Sinner and Alcaraz share a great rivalry, and there is no doubt that these two have been the two best players on the tour in the last couple of seasons. The duo has also shared the last eight Slams between them.

Barring the Australian Open final, Alcaraz and Sinner met each other in the Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and US Open finals in 2025.

While Alcaraz won the Roland Garros and US Open against Sinner, the Italian won the Wimbledon and Nitto ATP Finals in Turin in 2025 against the Spaniard. Sinner had championship points in the French Open final but Alcaraz was able to bounce back strongly. 

Betton said on the Chip and Charge Tennis podcast, “There is zero marketing for this (doubles). Zero marketing. They’re obsessed with, whenever Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner cross each other in a corridor, they’ll stick a camera there and go ‘two legends meet’. This happens every week, there is no reason for you to get it on camera all the time, it’s pathetic.”

“I don’t know if people know this, so the doubles players have specifically asked the ATP if they can run their own Instagram account, like a doubles only Instagram account, the ATP turned it down. They wouldn’t let them do it. All the doubles players had an agreement within themselves where they said, ‘top 100 we’ll all stick in two grand each and we’ll pay someone to run it and we’ll pay for marketing’. They won’t let them do it.”

Alcaraz has a 10-6 Win-Loss record in head-to-head battle against Sinner.
