Grigor Dimitrov has opened up on Novak Djokovic’s recent struggles on the tour. The Serbian was knocked out in the first round of the US Open and was seen getting emotional on the court when he was losing to Argentina’s Mariano Navone.
After his first-round loss, Djokovic slipped outside the top 10 rankings for the first time in the last decade. Djokovic won his last Slam at the US Open in 2023 and since then he is looking forward to winning his record-breaking 25th Major.
Dimitrov said in an interview with Bolavip, “The players in today’s tennis are just bigger, stronger, faster, which is just a natural part of the evolution of tennis, but of course it is not easy to see Djokovic getting older, maybe struggling a bit. No matter how strong you are, it is inevitable that it will hit you eventually from a biological point of view.
“Nature calls itself, and it is going to happen, and when you have been in a competitive sport for so many years, with travelling, jet lag and all that stuff, it eventually catches up with you.
“In a way I also feel like it should, you know. There are also other parts to life than tennis. We have just been put in this position, a very privileged place. I feel spoiled, and we should feel that way.”
Djokovic has revealed that he would next play at the China Open. The veteran has won the tournament on six occasions and has a 100% winning record at the competition.
Djokovic will definitely look to turn a corner at the China Open and show that there is still some fuel left in his old tank.
