The no.1 seed Daniil Medvedev was not at all pleased after he collided with the camera while playing against Andrey Rublev in the semifinal of the Cincinnati Open. While defending deep against his Russian counterpart in the second set, Medvedev collided with the camera and had a heated argument with the umpire.
Medvedev wanted the cameraman to be removed from that position but the umpire couldn’t obliged to his request. In fact, after colliding with the camera while trying to defend a point, Medvedev kicked the camera in frustration.
It could have been a serious injury for the Russian but he somehow survived.
“I almost broke my hand,” Medvedev explained to the official. “I almost broke my hand, take it away. Take it away. When the umpire said he could not oblige, the 25-year-old responded “you don’t care about players?”
Rublev was able to hold his serve in that game as Medvedev continued to argue with the chair umpire. The 25-year old Medvedev also called for medical attention after a mishap.
“I’m probably gonna sue them. I cannot play, call the physio. Call the physio, I cannot play. “I’m gonna sue them, call the physio.”
After a heated argument with the chair umpire, Medvedev lost the second set and also the final as Rublev won by 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to enter his second ATP 1000 Masters final.
Rublev had lost the opening set but bounced back in style in the next two sets to book his place in the final of the ATP 1000 Masters final. The 23-year old Russian will now face Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the final of the tournament on Sunday.
