Former World No.1 Jim Courier believes Carlos Alcaraz has got qualities which the Big Three – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic had during their heydays. Alcaraz recently defeated his rival Jannik Sinner in the US Open final in a four-set contest as he came up with a comprehensive performance.
The Spaniard also climbed to the top of the PIF ATP rankings after winning his sixth Slam on the tour. Earlier, Novak Djokovic had also claimed that Alcaraz has got the best out of the three worlds (Federer, Nadal and himself).
Recalling Djokovic’s statement, Jim Courier said on Tennis Channel, “No, I mean, I think Novak put it best. I think he’s really a combination of all of them.
“I think he’s got the offensive mindset, certainly that Roger had. I think he’s looking for offence at all times. He can D up in the corners like Novak, and then he’s obviously so tough in the big moments mentally as Rafa.
“So there’s a lot to like here, but he’s his own man, and that’s kind of what makes him special.
“Yes, he’s Spanish, but he does not play a typical Spanish, conservative percentage-wise, he plays the daredevil, risky tennis, and it’s definitely different and definitely amazing.”
Last year, ahead of Wimbledon, Alcaraz said he wants to be one of the best players in history.
“I want to be one of the best in history. I am dreaming that big.
“I want to sit [at] the same table as the ‘Big Three’ [Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer], legends of our sports.”
Alcaraz ticks almost all the right boxes and he never gives up on a point. The Spaniard plays aggressively and reaped rewards for the same in the New York Major.
