Former World No.5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has backed Novak Djokovic to find success in the 2026 season. Djokovic has failed to win a Slam in the last two years as Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated the tour.
The young pair have shared the last eight Majors between them, and there is a huge gulf between them and the rest of the players. Djokovic has not been able to challenge the duo at the fag end of the major tournaments as he seems to be running out of gas.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga said in a conversation with Blick Magazine, “When you hear (Djokovic) talk about Carlos and Jannik today, putting them on another level, you sometimes get the impression that he’s already given up. But I think he’s still ready. He continues to play very good tennis. And if there’s even an inch of opening, he’ll take it. You can feel that every time he steps onto the court, he’s pushing the boundaries even further. It will be fascinating to follow him this year.”
Meanwhile, Djokovic recently revealed his intentions to play until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Serb had won the Gold medal at the Paris Games in the previous edition.
“The LA Olympics is a guiding star. There’s no limit. I love competing. As long as I feel good, my body holds up, and I play at a high level — why not?” I’m still contributing to tennis. Big changes are coming, and I want to be part of them. Longevity isn’t just about sports. It’s about how you manage your body, mind, energy, and time. Pressure is a privilege. I always wanted to be on the world stage, and I’m grateful to still be here,” he said at the World Sports Summit in Dubai.
Djokovic has withdrawn from the Adelaide Open as he is not physically ready.
