Novak Djokovic can go on to win three or four more Grand slam titles: Jose Luis Clerc

Former ATP player Jose Luis Clerc believes it will be difficult for Roger Federer to win another slam title while Rafael Nadal can go on to win another title. However, he feels that the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic can go on to win another three or four major titles in his career.

Djokovic is playing at the top of his game and there is no stopping him from creating history. The Serbian has been in red-hot form in the recent past and considering his fitness and age, he still has a lot of fuel left in him as he is only 34 years old.

Djokovic has already won the three slams of the year so far and has also matched Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s tally of 20 slams titles. Djokovic has overall won 61 singles titles and he is ahead of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer’s tally as they have won 57 and 54 titles respectively.

“The best is going to be the one with the most Grand Slam tournaments won. At Wimbledon, we were all waiting for Djokovic to be consecrated so that the Big Three are on par with 20 titles,” the Argentine told ESPN. “I don’t think Roger will get another Slam, possibly Rafa yes, but the one with the best chances (of winning) three or four more is Djokovic.

“These are times that cannot be compared because before, everything was very different. When [Björn] Borg won Wimbledon five times, the grass was very fast. So, you had to go up to the net a lot.

Clerc, who won 25 singles titles in his career, added that Djokovic plays his best Tennis when he has his back against the wall. Djokovic was down by two sets in the French Open final against Stefanos Tsitsipas while he lost the opening set of Wimbledon final against Matteo Berrettini but bounced back on both occasions to win his 19th and 20th Grand slam titles.

“Faced with adversity is when he plays best. He does a lot of yoga and visualisation work, a fact that is fundamental for a sport as individual as tennis. Every day I understand it more. What the three of them do is historic, but history will mark Novak Djokovic.”
