Novak Djokovic on the cusp of breaking Roger Federer’s Grand slam record at French Open 2021

Novak Djokovic has made an impressive start to the 2021 season as he defeated Denis Shapovalov in the first match of the ATP Cup. Djokovic had led Serbia to victory in the maiden season of the ATP Cup in 2020 and he will look to replicate the same success in the ongoing event.

After the ATP Cup, Djokovic will look to continue his domination in the Australian Open. Djokovic has savoured great success in the Australian Open as he has won eight titles.

Meanwhile, Djokovic has been in the news for the wrong reasons ahead of the Australian Open regarding his suggestions during the quarantine period for the top players of the world.

On the other hand, the Big three – Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have always challenged each other. Djokovic is now on the cusp of breaking Roger Federer’s Grand slam record at the French Open.

Federer had qualified for 11 straight quarterfinals at the Australian Open between 2004 and 2014. His quarterfinal run was ended by Andreas Seppi in 2015 when he lost in the third round. In fact, during the same period, Federer also made 11 consecutive semifinal appearances at the Australian Open, winning four titles out of five finals he played.

Meanwhile, Djokovic has qualified for the quarterfinals of the French Open 11 times on the bounce. Thus, if World No. 1 qualifies for the quarterfinal of the Roland Garros 2021, he will leapfrog Federer’s record of making the quarterfinal of a single slam on more than 11 occasions. Djokovic had qualified for the final of the French Open 2020 but he lost in straight sets against the king of clay, Rafael Nadal.

Djokovic had a perfect 2020 season and he will look to repeat the same success. The Serbian will be seen in action in the AO 2021, which will begin on February 8.
