Carlos Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero reckons Novak Djokovic has made a stunning recovery at Wimbledon. Djokovic had to opt out of the Roland Garros quarterfinal against Casper Ruud due to an injury. The Serbian suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee and had to undergo a knife in Paris.
With not a big time window between the end of the French Open and the start of Wimbledon, there were doubts raised about Djokovic’s participation in the latter. However, the Serb once again stunned one and all with his quick recovery at SW19. The veteran not only recovered in time but also qualified for the semifinal of the tournament.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion will face Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinal on Friday after receiving a walkover in the quarterfinal as Alex de Minaur pulled out of the competition due to injury.
“He’s (Djokovic’s) made a record-breaking recovery. I think he’s doing pretty well, but he says he’s far from being at his best. He’s in the semi-finals at the moment. I’ve seen him move pretty well,” Ferrero said (via Marca – translated from Spanish).
The Spaniard added that Djokovic is excelling, especially in matches that are played indoors due to persistent rain in London.
“Here (at Wimbledon) he hits the ball fantastically, especially if it’s indoors because it doesn’t move at all and he hits everything in the center,” Ferrero added.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic could once again face each other in the Wimbledon final, like they did last year. The young Spaniard registered a thrilling five-set win against the veteran at Centre Court in 2023.
Alcaraz will face Daniil Medvedev in the other semifinal on Friday.
