Renowned Tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou reckons losing the Wimbledon final was a good thing that happened to Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard suffered a four-set loss against Jannik Sinner at SW19 but bounced back strongly in the US Open.

The 22-year-old was able to dominate Sinner in the New York Major final and registered a comprehensive four-set win. This was Alcaraz’s 10th win against Sinner and also took the number one position in the PIF ATP rankings.

Sinner also admitted that Alcaraz played better than the Wimbledon final and there was nothing much he could have done differently.

On his YouTube channel, Mouratoglou said: “I think this Wimbledon final was the best thing that happened to Carlos.

“Because if you think about it, Jannik won that Wimbledon final and was one point away from winning four Grand Slams in a row, one point away!

“Because if he would have won that match at Roland Garros, he would have won the four Grand Slams in a row.

“Jannik was really the boss, he was the boss.

The French coach said the Wimbledon final loss was a wake-up call for Alcaraz as Sinner was playing better.

“Why was this Wimbledon final so important? Because of the feeling that Carlos had in this final. He had a feeling that Jannik was really overpowering him, was better than him, was playing faster than him and he had no solutions.

“And I think it was a wake-up call for him. Very important wake-up call, and after that final he thought, ‘okay this guy is starting to be better than me, I can’t let this happen.”

“And that was key in his decision to start working on new things and improving.
