Roger Federer’s former coach Paul Annacone doesn’t want to compare Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz with the Big Three. Sinner and Alcaraz, the number one and two in the PIF ATP rankings respectively, are currently the two best players in the world.
While Sinner won the Australian Open and US Open in 2024, Alcaraz won the Roland Garros and Wimbledon. The Spaniard clinched the Silver medal at the Paris Olympics whereas Sinner recently won the Nitto ATP Finals.
On the other hand, Big Three – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are regarded as the three best players to have ever graced the sport. Federer and Nadal have retired from the game, but Djokovic is still going strong at the top level.
The Swiss Maestro won a total of 20 Grand Slam titles whereas the Spaniard won 22 Majors. The Serbian has so far won 24 Slams in his glorious career.
“Yeah, that helps, when you see two great champions come on to the stage like Alcaraz and Sinner, with the humility and integrity they have,” Annacone said on the Tennis Channel Inside-in podcast.
“It’s going to be fun, but let’s not compare them to the Big Three yet,” Annacone added.
On the other hand, former World No.1 Mats Wilander feels Sinner and Alcaraz’s top level is better than Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
“They are following in the footsteps of the ‘Big-3’ in terms of level. I hope Roger, Novak, and Rafa are not listening, but in terms of level, when Sinner and Alcaraz are at their best, there is no way anyone has ever played better tennis, that the tennis ball has done more different, complicated, difficult things than the ball is doing between Sinner and Alcaraz,” Wilander told Eurosport in October.
Sinner and Alcaraz are definitely the future of the game and they will look to continue the good show on the tour.
