Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci has opened up on Novak Djokovic’s chances of winning a Slam in 2026. The American said the Serbian can win a Major if either Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner get injured or they get stun in the early stages of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Djokovic is the most successful male tennis player in the history of the sport with 24 Slams in his glittering career. However, the former World No.1 hasn’t been able to win a Slam in the last two years as Alcaraz and Sinner have won the last eight Majors.
While Alcaraz has won four, Sinner has won as many in the last two years. There is no doubt Djokovic is the third best player in the world irrespective of the PIF ATP rankings but he ran out of fuel in the US Open after his semifinal loss against Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic had beaten Alcaraz in the quarterfinal of the Australian Open but he had to opt out of the semifinal clash against Alexander Zverev due to a hamstring injury after losing the opening set.
Rick Macci wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “Asked if the Joker can win a slam in 2026. YES. 1. If Sinner/ Alcaraz get upset or get injured. 2. If he does not have 5 set street fights and has time to recover.
“Can the Serbian Sniper the Rubber Band man win another Slam? YES because he has been there done that!”
There is no doubt that Alcaraz and Sinner are currently playing at the top of their games and Djokovic will have his work cut out in beating the duo in the later stages of a Major.
