Roger Federer says tennis is finally in post-Serena Williams, Nadal & himself era with Carlos Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner

Legendary Roger Federer believes tennis has finally gone past the epic eras of Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal and himself with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner taking center stage. Both Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated on the tour in the last two years and they have been the two best players.

Out of the last eight Grand Slam titles, Alcaraz and Sinner have shared four each. While Alcaraz is currently the number one player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Sinner is at the second place. The Spaniard was able to leapfrog the Italian after recently winning the US Open title, beating his rival in a four-set contest.

Roger Federer said on CNBC, “I think the French Open, for me, was the match the game needed to move on from the post-Roger, Rafa and Serena time. To truly embrace this rivalry and this incredible shotmaking that Carlos and Jannik have right now.”

On the other hand, veteran Novak Djokovic has been the third best player on the tour as he has made it to the semifinals of all four Slams in 2025. However, the Serbian has been chasing his 25th Major in the previous two years but he hasn’t been able to cross the last few hurdles.

“I think Novak (Djokovic) is right there as well. He played in all four semis (in Grand Slams) this year in the majors, which is incredible,” he added.

Meanwhile, Federer hinted that he is open to play more tennis and he would love to share the court with his long-time rival and friend, Rafael Nadal.

“Yeah, why not? I love Rafa. I played four hours of tennis here in San Francisco and also an hour and a half in LA,” continued Federer. “I am playing a lot, I’m trying to keep in good shape. I know Rafa is open to playing some more tennis. It sounds terrible… seniors tennis. Maybe we can create a tour. A ‘Fedal’ Tour.”

Federer announced his retirement after the Laver Cup in 2022.
