Roger Federer’s former coach Ivan Ljubicic believes it is comparatively easier for Carlos Alcaraz to win multiple Grand Slams as the Big Three – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have breached the standards and have set lofty records.

Djokovic is the most successful male tennis player of all time with 24 Slams whereas Nadal and Federer won 22 and 20 Majors in their glorious careers. 

On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz, 22, has already won seven Slams in his impressive young career. Alcaraz has ticked all the right boxes and also became the youngest to complete a Career Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open. The Spaniard at 22 years and 271 days became the youngest to achieve a Career Grand Slam.

Speaking to Tennis World Italia, via Punto De Break, the Croatian, Ivan Ljubicic, said: “What Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal have achieved, winning 20 or more Grand Slams, might make it easier today to win seven at 22.

“Back then, Pete Sampras was the reference point, so when he reached 14 we said to ourselves, ‘I have to do it.’ Now the goal is different, the target is 25, so it’s still far off.

“From a mental point of view, you tell yourself, ‘Okay, seven is not an incredible number because I have to reach 25.’

“It would be very different to win seven with the goal of reaching ten. In my opinion, mentally it’s easier to win seven Grand Slams now, compared to Borg who won seven when he was very young.”

Alcaraz was at his absolute best in the Australian Open and he is definitely going to set new records at the top level.
