Emma Raducanu has picked Carlos Alcaraz as the favorite for the upcoming US Open. Alcaraz has been in red-hot form in the ongoing season, winning Roland Garros and also defended his Wimbledon title by beating Novak Djokovic in the final.
The Spaniard then won the Silver medal at the Paris Olympics as he could not go past Djokovic and he would look to keep up the good show. However, Alcaraz was beaten by Gael Monfils in the round of 32 at the Cincinnati Open.
“The way that last year has gone, I would have to say Carlos Alcaraz (will win the US Open). He’s playing really good tennis,” Raducanu, who won the US Open in 2021, told Tennis Channel.
Meanwhile, Alcaraz won the thrilling five-setter game, ending with a score line of 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 against Frances Tiafoe in the Wimbledon and Raducanu had said it was inspiring to watch the Spaniard in action.
“The Carlos versus Frances Tiafoe match was such amazing tennis, just very fun to watch,” Raducanu said during her Wimbledon press conference.
“The last couple matches I’ve been following Carlos, and it’s just good to watch before the match,” she added.
“And sometimes in certain moments you in a way try to emulate certain shots or whatever,” she said.
Alcaraz has been ticking the right boxes in his young career and he has delivered consistently on the court. The youngster has all the shots in the book and he is a livewire.
