Former New Zealand batter Jesse Ryder has showered praise on Indian captain Shubman Gill after a successful tour of England. The former left-hander reckons the England series would have been a good learning curve for the youngster.
Gill scored 754 runs in five Test matches against England at an average of 75.40 and led from the front. Thus, the right-hander was awarded as India’s Player of the Series. The Indian captain was able to get the best out of his players while leading for the first time in the red-ball format.
Gill broke multiple records on the England tour, and he must have grown in confidence after a 2-2 series result.
“There’s a lot of talent coming through, especially over here in India. There are so many people here. Shubman Gill is a young fellow. England would have been a good learning curve for him,” Ryder was quoted as saying to IANS.
The Indian captain aggregated 430 runs in the second Test match at Edgbaston, Birmingham, and played an instrumental role in India’s massive 336-run win.
When asked about India’s next rising superstar, the former southpaw picked Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Indian opener scored 411 runs in five Test matches against England at an average of 41.10.
“India has got a lot of talent coming through, they’ve got great players like Jaiswal coming through,” he added.
Jaiswal scored an impressive knock of 118 runs in the second innings of the fifth Test match at the Kennington Oval, London, to put India in front.
Jaiswal and Gill will be seen in action in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.
