Novak Djokovic hopeful of winning one more Australian Open title before retirement

    January 7, 2025

Former World No.1 Novak Djokovic is hopeful of winning one more Australian Open title before he announces his retirement. The Serbian has had a stellar record at the Happy Slam, winning 10 out of his 24 Grand Slams in Melbourne, which is most at Australian Open.

In 2024, Djokovic lost the semifinals clash against Jannik Sinner in a four set contest as the Italian became the first man to beat the Serbian in the semis of the Australian Open.

Novak Djokovic said in an interview with Herald Sun, “Melbourne has been the most successful city or the Australian Open the most successful grand slam I’ve had in my career.”

“I want to keep it that way, I hope to keep going. I just hope to, before I retire, get at least one more title there and that is the goal,” he said.

Djokovic is looking forward to playing in front of the Australian crowd at the Rod Laver Arena.

“I love playing in Rod Laver Arena, the atmosphere is so good – summer time – people love their sport in Melbourne and Australia and so I should look forward to going there.’’

On the other hand, Serena Williams former coach Rennae Stubbs backed Djokovic to break Margaret Court’s record of 24 Majors.

Stubbs said on his podcast, “I hope to God he does that. Like, I’m not kidding you . If he wins the Australian Open, I would like him to drop the mic. I would really love to see Novak win one more cause God knows I want that Margaret Court record to be never talked about ever again ‘cause they changed the goal posts.”

Djokovic recently lost in straight sets against Reilly Opelka in the quarter-final of the Brisbane Open.

The Australian Open will begin from January 12 onwards.
