Anthony Davis says Lakers ‘right there’ but need to add center to be title contenders

Los Angeles Lakers’ big man Anthony Davis said the franchise is almost there as a title contender and they can boost their chances of going all the way in the NBA if they can add a center to their roster before the trade deadline on February 6.

“I think we need another big,” Davis told ESPN’s Shams Charania this week. “I feel like I’ve always been at my best when I’ve been the 4, having a big out there.”

The Lakers registered a 117-96 win against the defending champions Boston Celtics on Thursday and LeBron James highlighted they need to play a perfect game to keep themselves in the race.

“We have to play perfect basketball,” James said after the win.

The Lakers last won the championship in 2020 and Davis recalled that the squad size allowed him to play his role of power forward perfectly.

“We know it worked when we won a championship with JaVale [McGee] and Dwight [Howard] at the 5 and I’m at the 4,” he added.

Davis added he and LeBron James are motivated to win another NBA ring and they are looking forward to keeping up the good show.

“We feel like we are right there, you know, as far as the team and everything like that,” Davis continued. “[James] and I are like very, very motivated to win another championship.”

Davis leads the Lakers with 25.7 points and 11.9 rebounds per game and he would look to keep up the good show in the upcoming matches.

The Lakers currently have a 24-18 record and they will next take on the rivals Golden State Warriors on Saturday.
