The Phoenix Suns topped the Western Conference during the regular season but they failed to translate that form into their post season as they were beaten in the Conference semifinals against the Dallas Mavericks.
Despite the best efforts of Devin Booker, it was simply not enough for them to overturn Luka Doncic’s exploits for the Mavs.
Suns talisman Chris Paul did not have the best outing against the Mavs as he massively underperformed when they desperately needed him to come out and play his best. CP3 received a lot of criticism for his performances but the harshest of them came from Minnesota Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley.
It was a tight series between Phoenix and Dallas as the Mavericks won Game 7 emphatically to progress through to the conference finals. After which came a flurry of criticism from everywhere for Chris Paul as he did not have a great outing. However beverley went over the line and questioned CP3’s skills which was not taken nicely by the entire NBA fraternity.
Therefore New Orleans Pelicans star CJ McCollum spoke against the Timberwolves man sharing some facts about him and also comparing him with Chris Paul. CJ shared how Beverley’s rant on Chris Paul was more personal and had less about basketball.
“I don’t necessarily think I agree with it but I think everybody has a right to their own opinions. I would say a lot of stuff that he said about CP in terms of his performance in the playoffs was true. I think it was more so the way he said it.” CJ shared on his podcast ‘Pull Up with CJ McCollum’.
The entire NBA community was shocked to see an experienced guard like Beverley speaking ill against Chris Paul especially when his team just got knocked out of the playoffs. On Stephen A’s World, Beverley shared how the animosity started during their college days where he destroyed little CP3.
Beverley feels that Chris Paul gets a lot of love for things that he does good but does not get the slander that he deserves. “I respect his game. I love CP’s game. I love what he do, I love back in the day he destroyed Tony Parker and all that type of stuff in New Orleans. But the praise that he gets and the slander that he doesn’t get when he doesn’t perform is not the same as it is with every other superstar, and my question is ‘Why not?'”
Both Patrick Beverley and Chris paul will turn up again for their respective teams in the upcoming season as both Minnesota and Phoenix have high hopes from them.
