LA Lakers head coach Frank Vogel was full of praise for newcomer Russell Westbrook after his team defeated San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday by 125-121 in Overtime. The Lakers were on the backfoot as LeBron James could not play due to his ankle injury which he suffered while playing against Memphis Grizzlies.
However, both Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook were able to fill in the big shoes of LeBron James as they came up with their best. Russell scored 33 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds shooting 55% from the field. Davis also had a huge night as he scored 35 points, 17 rebounds, and four blocks. Thus, both of these players were able to tick the right boxes and played an instrumental role in the team’s win.
Vogel stated that Westbrook was the reason for their win against San Antonio Spurs.
Frank Vogel said in the post-match press conference: “He was terrific, especially down the stretch. … Big step for him, a big reason for the win.”
Vogel also added that the team was more determined on the defensive line and came up with their best in the crucial stages of the match.
Vogel added, “I think he (Westbrook) slowed down a bit in terms of his attacks. But to play 39 minutes with only three turnovers is one hell of a night with ball security.
Vogel will hope that the Lakers continue their sublime form and the winning momentum which they have achieved in the last couple of matches.
The Lakers have been coming up with collective efforts and Westbrook will aim to continue the good show for his team. The Lakers will next face Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.
