I should just play the game I normally do: Stephen Curry after disappointing performance against Philadelphia 76ers

Golden State Warriors linchpin Stephen Curry reckons he should try to play his natural game which he usually does. Curry is on the cusp of breaking Ray Allen’s record of most threes in a regular season as he is just seven triples away from the much-awaited record.

However, the talisman wasn’t at his usual best against the Philadelphia 76ers as he dropped 18 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

The talisman had a poor 6 out of 20 field-goal attempts, registering 30% accuracy from the field. Furthermore, he converted 3 out of his 14 three-pointers attempt, which is rarely the case. Thus, his poor performance was reflected in the team’s performance as they lost by 102-93 on Saturday night.

“If you take away the context of these last couple games, I played the exact same way,” Curry said.

“I just got to make shots and understand the opposition’s not going to want that to happen on their own floor. And they defend accordingly so I think for the most part try to keep it out of my head and just play basketball and just take the shots I normally take, play the game I normally do.

“There’s obviously a lot of attention on it which is well-deserved, it’s an all-time NBA record, and it’s one that’s been standing for 10, 11 years, so I appreciate the attention on it and it will happen when it happens. You got to continue to try and win games in the process.”

On the other hand, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr gave credit to the Philadelphia 76ers Matisse Thybulle for keeping Steph Curry at bay as he didn’t allow the talisman any space to operate and play at his best.

“I give Thybulle credit,” Kerr said. “I thought he was fantastic defensively. He’s a rare combination of length and athleticism and brains and he did as good a job on Steph as anybody I’ve seen in a long time.”

Meanwhile, Joel Embiid reckons Matisse Thybulle is in contention to win the defensive player of the year after such a brilliant show.

“It was amazing,” Sixers center Joel Embiid said. “I’ve been saying this, this is a guy who is probably the best perimeter defender in the league, and I think he has a chance to win defensive player of the year.”

GSW currently has a 21-5 record and they will next face Indiana Pacers on Monday night.
