Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar LeBron James has revealed that he wants to finish his glorious career with his current team. James, 40, signed a two-year contract extension with the Lakers in the offseason.
The deal included a no-trade clause but it would be interesting to note how things will pan out for the veteran star.
Before the no-trade clause was in place, the Golden State Warriors had shown interest in James in February 2024 but he had declined the offer.
“I am a Laker, and I’m happy and been very happy being a Laker the last six years and hopefully it stays that way,” James said at the time. “But I don’t have the answer to how long it is or which uniform I’ll be in. Hopefully [it] is with the Lakers. It’s a great organization, so many greats. But we’ll see.”
James has a player option for 2025-26. The veteran is currently playing his 22nd NBA season, which is the joint most with Vince Carter.
Meanwhile, Luka Doncic was traded to Los Angeles in a surprising three-team trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks.
Earlier in the season, James had revealed that he won’t play for much longer in the NBA.
“I’m not going to play that much longer, to be completely honest,” James told reporters as quoted by CNN.
“I don’t know how many years that is. If it’s one year or two years, whatever the case may be.
“I said the other night, I’m not playing until the wheels fall off. I’m not going to be that guy. I’m not going to be the guy who is disrespecting the game because I just wanted to be out on the floor. That won’t be me,” he had said.
The Lakers will take on the LA Clippers on Tuesday.
