Former LA Lakers player Metta Sandiford-Artest has put his weight behind the team to win the NBA title in the upcoming season. The Lakers were knocked out in the previous edition in the first round of the playoffs by the Phoenix Suns. However, the 2020 champions added the services of Russell Westbrook to their squad, and the talisman is expected to provide support to Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
Meanwhile, a lot of pundits feel that it won’t be easy for the Lakers to win the NBA championship as their average age is higher. However, Artest squashed such analysis and he feels that the experience Lakers players will help the team in clinching the title.
Metta added that the Lakers squad is not super old and they could win their 18th NBA title.
“I was also talking to a couple of people about the Lakers team,” Metta said. “The Lakers are the oldest team in the league, but they’re not super old. They’re not like 40.”
“So they have their intelligence, they still have their physical capabilities. This is one of the reasons why I think that the Lakers is gonna have the opportunity to win the Finals”.
Artest had won a title with the Lakers when the squad was in the late twenties.
On the other hand, the current Lakers team has experienced players like Carmelo Anthony, Trevor Ariza, and Dwight Howard. Thus, they have experience in their squad and can go all the way in the tournament.
The Lakers will aim to turn the tables in the upcoming season and they have the players who can take them all the way in the competition.
Lakers will commence their season against Golden State Warriors on October 20.
