The LA Lakers have had a horrid start to their campaign in NBA 2021-22 season. Firstly, they lost all of their six matches of the preseason and could not get any kind of momentum under their belt. Subsequently, the Lakers lost their opening match against Golden State Warriors and things didn’t change much as they lost 115-105 against Phoenix Suns at Staples Center.
It is certainly not a start which the Lakers were hoping for and the players have failed to once again come up with a collective effort. LeBron James was once again the lone warrior as he scored 34 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists but could not save his team from a 10-point loss.
James admitted that the emotional side got the better of them on the night and they will need to pick themselves up in the post-match interview along with Anthony Davis.
“We got to do a better job of not allowing calls that we feel like should have gone our way stop us from what our goal is on the floor. There were some very very difficult calls that we felt like should’ve gone our way. But we allowed that to comeback 3-4-5 possession in a row, and we started to lose control of the game,” James admitted.
“We were kind of too worried about what they were calling and what they were not. So I think the emotional side got to us tonight.”
The Lakers also failed to capitalize on their lead in the second and third quarters and then had to face the disappointing loss. Furthermore, there was an altercation between Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard at the bench, which is not a good sign for the team. However, both of these players admitted that they have resolved their differences and there is no bad blood between them.
Lakers would aim to bounce back stronger and they will next lock horns against Memphis Grizzlies on Monday (7 AM IST).
