Golden State Warriors have acquired the services of Dennis Schroder in a trade for De’Anthony Melton with the Brooklyn Nets, it was announced on Sunday. As per ESPN, the Warriors are also receiving a 2025 second-round pick (via Miami) from the Nets, while Brooklyn gets Reece Beekman and three second-round picks (2026 and 2028 via Atlanta, 2029 via Golden State) in the deal.
Schroder is averaging 18.4 points and a career-high 6.6 assists in 33.6 minutes per game in the ongoing season and has played a key role in the success of the Brooklyn Nets.
On the other hand, Melton, who signed a one-year deal this offseason, suffered a torn ACL last month and is ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The Warriors have struggled without Melton and have suffered seven losses in their last nine games.
The Dubs head coach Steve Kerr said Melton’s injury had put his rotation strategy under fire and admitted they needed to fill in the big void.
“[It] changed everything,” Kerr said early Saturday afternoon after Warriors practice. “De’Anthony was a guy who could help get us organized offensively as a secondary ball handler, pick-and-roll guy, but also be an on-ball defender, spot-up shooter. We’re mixing and matching around his absence for sure.
“But I love the guys on this team, on this roster. I think we have a lot of depth, and yes, we’re mixing and matching, but that’s what is required right now and that’s what we’re going to continue to do.”
Kerr will hope that the German’s addition will help them provide support to Steph Curry. The Warriors currently have a 14-10 record in the ongoing season and they will next take on Dallas Mavericks on Monday.
