Aakash Chopra disappointed by India’s ‘clueless’ approach for Travis Head in 3rd BGT 2024-25 Test

Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra shared his disappointment after India’s clueless approach against Travis Head in the third Test match against Australia at the Gabba, Brisbane on Sunday. Indian bowlers once again could not crack the code against Travis Head, who continued his purple patch.

Head scored a majestic knock of 152 runs off just 160 balls with the help of 18 fours as he batted at the top of his game. The southpaw once again scored at a rapid pace and gave no chance to the visitors’ bowlers.

The left-hander added 241 runs with Steve Smith, who got back into form and scored a fine knock of 101 runs. This was Head’s ninth Test century and his third against India as he continued his love affair with the Indian bowlers.

Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that Indian bowlers were not patient enough and didn’t stick to their plans for a long time as there were continuous changes in the field placement.

Aakash Chopra said on YouTube Channel, “I feel that our plans against Travis Head are not right. We start trying too hard and then give up too fast. Then we wait, and then nothing works actually. So, it is a sad story.”

“What is the coaching staff doing? Morne Morkel is sitting there, he must be telling the bowlers about what plan we have for Travis Head. Like we are going to bowl a bouncer to him from over the wicket of around the wicket, or we are trying to make him play the drive.

“Every time he comes, Australia are in trouble. Every time he leaves, Australia recover by then. Being clueless against Travis Head is hurting Team India and it is not a good statement,” Chopra added.

Meanwhile, India played Washington Sundar in the opening Test and then included Ravichandran Ashwin in the second Test. The tourists’ replaced Ashwin with Ravindra Jadeja in the ongoing third Test and Chopra reckons there is no logic in India’s selection.

“There is no logic in it that you play someone in one match and then someone else in the next game. Maybe Kuldeep will play the next Test, that is how it starts to feel. No one has done anything wrong, still you keep changing. Why are you changing? You do it after losing and even after winning. I genuinely feel India is missing a trick.”

Australia ended the second day’s play at 405-7 after centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith.
