Chennai Super Kings need some momentum in their batting – Parthiv Patel

Former Indian wicket-keeper batsman and now commentator Parthiv Patel believes Chennai Super Kings will need to find some momentum in their batting order in the forthcoming season of IPL 2021. CSK had struggled to get going with the bat in the previous season of the IPL 2020 and they will look to turn the tables.

Players like Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaekwad were consistent for CSK in the last edition but apart from them, the batting order failed to come up with consistent performances. The team had failed to put enough runs on the board and their batsmen couldn’t support the bowlers in the previous season.

However, CSK is always known to bounce back strong and they will look to come up with a better show.

“Absolutely, this is a side that needs some momentum in their batting. If you look at last year’s performance, they didn’t score as many runs. The young players found it slightly difficult to bat on difficult wickets of Abu Dhabi and Dubai,” said Patel while talking to Star Sports.

Meanwhile, CSK will play their first five matches at the high-scoring Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and thus it will be crucial for them to find the impetus.

Patel feels it will be good for CSK to begin its campaign in Mumbai. The former wicket-keeper also revealed that MS Dhoni will be determined to come up with a better performance.

“It is an advantage for them to start the tournament in Mumbai where everyone will get into form. I met MS Dhoni a few days back and he looked really determined. He just wants to go out there and enjoy. Last year he felt that he wasn’t enjoying as much, there was a lot of pressure around and there were a lot of controversies going around the team as well. But this time around he is looking fresh, CSK is looking fresh, they have covered all the bases,” added Patel.

The previous season was the first time when CSK had failed to qualify for the playoff stages as they finished at the seventh position in the points table. CSK will be boosted by the return of Suresh Raina, who had to pull out of the previous season due to personal reasons. Furthermore, they had roped in Moeen Ali and Krishnappa Gowtham for INR 7 and 9.25 crores respectively in the auction.

Chennai will begin their IPL campaign against previous season runners-up Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium on 10th April.
