India’s quick Mohammed Shami reckons New Zealand will hold the advantage in the upcoming World Test Championship final.
Shami feels New Zealand could have their wood on India as they will play two Test matches against England and they will be able to get acclimatise to the conditions.
New Zealand have been preparing in the English conditions whereas India will reach the UK on June 3. The Indian players will need to complete another quarantine and they will be able to practice after June 12. Thus, the Kiwis will be better prepared for the WTC final as the two Test matches against England will be a perfect way for them to get used to the conditions.
However, Shami also acknowledged that none of the teams will hold the home advantage and both teams have quality players.
“Definitely they will have the advantage as they have arrived early and will play a couple of Test matches against the hosts. But I feel, when two teams enter finals, they reach that point after showcasing their abilities. None of the teams will have the home advantage and I hope our playing XI must commit the least errors. Both India and New Zealand are top-class teams and neither of them would let go of any chance. So, it’s important to utilise your time and skills precisely,” Shami told India News during an interview.
On the other hand, India has a potent pace battery and they have taken giant strides in the recent past. Shami, Bumrah and Ishant Sharma have the experience under their belt and they will look to deliver the goods in the all-important match.
“Hope, the bowling unit performs well. We have beaten Australia in Australia and then England at home. The boys are high on confidence and I hope they continue the same in England,” Shami added.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami will hold the key for the Indian team as he can get the ball to seam. Shami has been right on the money with his line and length and he will look to be at his best. The WTC final will take place at Ageas Bowl, Southampton from June 18.
