Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Dinesh Karthik reckons Rohit Sharma isn’t ready to work on his technique to get back into form in Test cricket. Karthik believes Rohit is lacking confidence and it won’t be easy for him to get runs in the rest of the Border-Gavaskar series.
Rohit was dismissed after scoring only 10 runs in the first innings of the third Test at Brisbane, Gabba after managing scores of 3 and 6 in the pink-ball Test at Adelaide while batting at number six.
Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz, “Rohit Sharma has played a decade and a half of international cricket. If you are telling me, his technique is not watertight, I would be very surprised. Like everybody else, he’s got areas that he is vulnerable in, but he has the mental ability to fight it out. I am not sure he believes in it right now. That could be confidence. But, if he puts his mind to it, works on areas that he wants to really address as to how he wants to play, this question can be answered.”
Karthik observed that Rohit has taken an aggressive approach to lead from the front in the white-ball formats and thus it is not easy for him to go back to the drawing board and play defensively.
“For some time now, he’s attacked himself out of pressure. That’s what India wanted in white-ball cricket. He was the pioneer for it. As leader, he showed how it should be done. It’s time for him to show the other way round. Guts it out, make sure that he is there. Avoid shots that he knows will be dangerous on that pitch and back his technique.”
Rohit hasn’t batted at his best as he has managed only one fifty in the last 13 Test innings. The right-hander managed 42 runs in two Test matches against Bangladesh whereas he could only score 91 runs in three Test matches against New Zealand despite playing at home.
The fourth Test match between India and Australia will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground from 26th December.
