ENG vs IND 2021: Test series against India will determine where we are – Jack Leach

England’s spinner Jack Leach feels the upcoming five-match Test series against India will determine where they stand as a team.

It is going to be a crucial Test series for both teams as they will look to come up with their best. England were recently beaten by India 3-1 when the Joe Root-led team had recently toured in 2021.

Thus, the English team will look to take their revenge and come up with a better performance. England will start as favorites in their home conditions but will miss talismanic players like Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer. Stokes recently took a indefinite break from International career to prioritise his mental health whereas Jofra Archer is yet to recover from the elbow injury.

On the other hand, India has been in England since June 3 and they would have adapted to the English conditions. The visitors also played a warm-up against County Select XI and the Virat Kohli-led will be confident as they have got a lot of time in preparing for the five-match Test series.

Meanwhile, Jack Leach had done a decent job for England in the four-match Test series against India as he had scalped 18 wickets and was the pick of the English bowlers.

“The belief that I can bowl at these guys and do well,” Leach was quoted as saying by ‘The Guardian’ when asked what he can take from the tour of India.

“If the wicket is better it is just adapting your skill slightly. I enjoy bowling spin in England. The wickets generally are quite dry and there is definitely a role to play. “Playing against India, who are such a strong side, in a five Test-match series, will tell us a lot about where we’re at.”

Leach wants to tick the right boxes in the upcoming Test series against England and he added that he has worked hard on his bowling. The left-arm orthodox spinner will look to cement his place in the Test squad for the Ashes.

“I guess I’m still trying to work my way into the team on a consistent basis. That’s my main thought: making sure my game is in a good place so I can be in the team and performing consistently,” he said.

The first Test match between India and England will take place at Trent Bridge, Nottingham from August 4.
