England and Wales Cricket Board announced the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 squad last week on Friday. Jos Buttler will lead the 15-man squad for the Three Lions while Moeen Ali will be his deputy. Opener Jason Roy has been dropped from the team after a poor run of form in the recent past.
Furthermore, Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out with an injury that he suffered after slipping on the golf course. England becomes the second team to announce their T20 World Cup squad after Australia.
England had lost to New Zealand in the semi-final in the previous edition of the T20I showpiece. The Jos Buttler-led team will start as one of the favorites for the World Cup despite missing some of their key players.
However, England hasn’t been in the best of forms in white-ball cricket. They recently lost the ODI and T20I series against India and also lost the T20I series against South Africa. Thus, they will be determined to turn the tables in the marquee event.
England will tour Pakistan for a seven-match T20I series and then they will play a three-match T20I series against Australia, which will be the idol preparation for them before the T20 World Cup.
England will begin their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on 22nd October at the Perth Stadium.
England ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Squad Jos Buttler (Captain), Moeen Ali (Vice-Captain), Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
Traveling Reserves: Liam Dawson, Richard Gleeson, Tymal Mills.
Meanwhile, England had won their first and last T20 World Cup title back in 2010 under the leadership of Paul Collingwood when Kevin Pietersen had scored 248 runs for the team.
