India’s leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has revealed he was heartbroken after he learned that he hasn’t been picked for the T20 World Cup 2021.
Chahal was expected to get a place in the squad but the national selectors decided to leave him out despite a decent performance in the second phase of IPL 2021 for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Chahal picked 11 wickets in eight matches in the second leg of the tournament. However, the Indian selectors decided to pick Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, and Varun Chakravarthy as the four spinners.
Chahal stated that he didn’t even feel like having food on that particular day and felt low as he wasn’t dropped in the last five years.
Chahal said on the RCB podcast, “The team was supposed to be announced at 9:30 and then it got delayed by a bit. I swear I did not know that my name wouldn’t come. When the list came, I did not say anything to anyone for a few minutes.
“My wife was asking me about the announcement and I sent her the screenshot. The dinner had arrived but didn’t feel like eating anything that night. Felt very low as I wasn’t dropped even once for five years.”
Meanwhile, Chahal has been a consistent performer in the IPL as he has picked 139 wickets in 114 matches. The leg-spinner wants to represent the national team for another five to six years.
“My goal is to become the first bowler to take 200 wickets in IPL. Moreover, I also want to continue playing for team India for the next 5-6 years.”
Chahal has made a good start to the ODI series against the West Indies as he scalped three wickets in the first game on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Chahal was not retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore before the IPL auction and he has set his base price at INR 2 crore.
