Barring Sir Don Bradman, there hasn’t been a cricketer who hasn’t gone through a rough patch. The modern-day Virat Kohli went through a lull period for almost two years when he failed to score a century across all three formats.
Kohli admitted how one reacts to the tough phases, shows the character of that particular man, not only in sports but also in life. The talisman was finally able to end his drought of runs when he scored a T20I century in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan.
Similarly, Kohli could not perform consistently in the first seven matches of the T20 World Cup 2024. However, come the big stage of the final, Kohli scored a match-winning knock of 76 runs off 59 balls against South Africa in Barbados.
“How you react to the times when you are not feeling great and how you ride that wave and accept things the way they are – it’s a very delicate thing to do when you know you’re not doing well and you feel like you don’t want to work, you don’t want to go to practice, you don’t want to work hard in the gym,” Kohli said in the viral video on X.
Kohli added one should be prepared to work hard even if the positive results are not coming as it is god’s test.
“But you feel like as an individual, you’re respecting all phases of life, and even in your worst times, you are committed to do the hard work, and it’s not based on success. That, to me, is the real game here, because that is eventually God’s test. This is how I look at it and if you’re not up to the test then you are basically not being grateful and not being loyal to the opportunity that’s been given to you,” he added.
Kohli has had a glorious career and he would look to keep up the good show.
