India’s gun fast bowler Mohammed Shami has revealed that he is on the right path to recovery and he is 100% prepared for the all-important Australia tour. Shami last played for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia and since then he has been recovering from an ankle injury.
The fast bowler also underwent surgery and he will look to hit the ground running upon his much-anticipated return. Shami was also seen bowling to Shubman Gill and India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in Bengaluru.
“I am 100 per cent prepared. I am trying my best to be fully fit before the tour. Plenty has been said about the (Australia) tour, there’s a lot of hype around it. We do want to make three wins in a row,” Shami told News18 on the sidelines of an event in Gurgaon on Monday.
Shami admitted staying patient is the key when a player is recovering from a serious injury.
“It’s difficult but this also a test. Whether it’s physical or mental, you have to go through a test. As a player, when you are going through a serious injury, staying patient is paramount. If you can control it, positive results will follow,” he said.
Shami has revealed that he is pain-free and he is looking forward to making his comeback. Earlier, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said he doesn’t want to take an undercooked Shami to Australia.
“To be honest, it is difficult to make a call on him for Australia series. He had a setback and had swelling in his knees. That put him back a little bit and had to start again. He’s at the NCA with doctors and physios. We don’t want to bring undercooked Shami to Australia. We are keeping our fingers crossed,” Rohit Sharma said ahead of the first Test against New Zealand.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
