Former Indian head coach Rahul Dravid doesn’t want to take credit for maintaining a healthy dressing room atmosphere during his tenure. Dravid believes the team is driven by the senior players and the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah played a key role in maintaining the right atmosphere.
India recently lifted the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and the tutelage of Rahul Dravid. The Rohit Sharma-led team had to face a lot of heartbreaks before they finally crossed the line in the major ICC tournament final.
Dravid it was his pleasure to work with Rohit Sharma and hailed the latter for his astute captaincy.
“I think I can’t completely take the credit for that. I believe the team is driven by the senior players, led by the captains. It was a privilege to work with Rohit. In these two and a half years, I think he was a fantastic leader. People really gravitated towards him and I think that makes a big difference.”
Meanwhile, Indian cricket has many superstars and Dravid, who observed all of them from close quarters during his stint, said they are humble. Citing Ravichandran Ashwin’s example, Dravid said Indian players are willing to adapt and learn.
“Just because a lot of Indian cricketers are superstars, people sometimes think they have big egos and they are difficult to manage. But I think it is the opposite. I think these superstars are humble about their preparation, work ethic and that’s why they are superstars. I mean you’re seeing it in Ashwin today. Even at this age, he is willing to adapt, he is willing to learn. This is just one example,” Dravid said.
After Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir has been handed over the coaching baton for the national team.
