Former South African all-rounder and current Afghanistan coach Lance Klusener has predicted that he sees Rishabh Pant taking over as an Indian captain one day.
Pant has definitely shown the right skills to go a long way in his career and many of the cricket pundits have put their money on him as a future Indian skipper.
Pant has impressed in his maiden stint as Delhi Capitals captain as he led the team to 10 wins in 14 league matches, taking the team to playoffs with ease. Thus, the Capitals finished at the top of the points table but lost the first qualifier against Chennai Super Kings.
Pant has been successful in getting the best out of the players and he has led from the front. Furthermore, the wicket-keeper batter has also done the job with the bat and he has provided quick runs in the middle order.
Lance Klusener said while talking to TOI, “I see a guy like Rishabh Pant being an Indian captain one day. He’s still a bit young, possibly. We might see Rohit doing it for a while. I think just in terms of letting somebody else stand up and be head and shoulders pick to succeed Virat might mean Rohit doing it for a little while. Rohit can do it while somebody grows or somebody comes through and becomes a clear candidate to do that job.”
On the other hand, Pant’s captaincy did come under scrutiny when he decided not to give the final over to Kagiso Rabada against CSK and instead backed Tom Curran. The move didn’t pay off as the English pacer could not defend 13 runs off the final over against MS Dhoni.
Pant is still young in his captaincy career and there is no doubt that he will learn along the way. The wicket-keeper batter has taken giant strides in the last year and he will look to continue the same. Pant’s confidence is now palpable and he will look to take DC into the final of IPL 2021.
DC will play KKR in the second qualifier at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
